It is Thursday, and I am DAYS away from a beach getaway for one week. I can’t wait to relax with family and soak up some sun. I haven’t had a true vacation in a while and especially since I’ve been working full time. I decided to take this time to pause the blog. I won’t have wifi where I’m at, so I don’t want to be auto-posting if I can’t see what’s going on. I’ll be back a week from Monday with new content for you!
Seeing that I’m about to hop on a plane for travel I thought I would share one of those outfits that’s great for travel. It’s comfy, simple, functional and still nice. I’m also sharing this huge new canvas tote I picked up for the trip! I’ve been wanting a very large tote that I can really fit everything in. This tote is such a great deal, and it is way larger in person than it is in photos. You can fit a small country in this thing.
Normally when I travel, I over plan. I make packing lists and meticulously plan out every outfit depending on weather and activities. This time, I’ve been a lot more relaxed. I think working full time has made me less of a planner in my personal life.
Maybe that’s coming with age, as well. I have noticed myself changing in this new phase of life. Maybe it’s part of my “say yes” mentality. Maybe it’s because post grad life is a fresh start. Maybe it’s a part of my walk with the Lord that I shared earlier this week. Whatever it is, I’ve relaxed a bit in my personal life. However, when preparing for a trip I do still have a little bit of old me left.
I still have some items that I absolutely have to bring on every trip. The necessities I’ve listed out below are pretty universal for anyone going on vacation–especially the beach. There’s even one that you might not think about as a necessity, but for me it is! When I pack, I try to think through every scenario and what I will need or want for each leg of the trip. But, I don’t pack things without knowing exactly what I will wear it with. Everything has a purpose in my suitcase. That way I don’t bring things I don’t need and can keep that suitcase below 50 pounds!
This time I’ll pack pretty last minute. I haven’t planned it all out like I normally do. But, it’s good to get in that super-planned-out mindset when the packing is actually being done. I might regret this tomorrow, but for now I’m going to embrace new Holly and wing it! Check out my necessities and even some travel tips below!
My Travel Necessities & Tips
Wear a wrap scarf on the plane
This cozy scarf is so huge that it can double as a blanket on a cold airplane. Not that I can ever sleep on planes … If I’m going to be awake I might as well be warm!
Socks must go in the carry on!
I like wearing easy shoes (like these!) for the security check, but they aren’t always the warmest. Make sure to bring a pair of fuzzy socks for your toes! Plus, I like getting comfy during a flight. I think it makes me more excited for the journey.
Versatile tops make getting dressed from a suitcase easy
These tops are my favorite because I can wear them with so many things. It’s great for the airplane with leggings or comfy jeans, and I can swap them for shorts when I get to my destination! They also make great bathing suit cover ups if you size up one or two sizes.
Don’t forget a jacket for the plane or overly air conditioned beach restaurant
This wrap can double as a night-time wrap of the restaurant you’re at is cold. You should also pack a light jacket. Even the beach can get cool at night in the spring!
ALWAYS bring lip balm
I always wish I had lip balm when I’m flying! My lips get so dry from the air, and at the beach they can get dry from the sun. It is important to have in your travel bag. I use the Nivea in the blue tube and I love it.
Roll your clothes to save space and prevent wrinkles
Rolling your clothes like a burrito when you pack saves room in the suitcase. I don’t know the engineering behind that, but it works! Your clothes don’t get as wrinkled this way either. Just try it–it will change your life.
Bring things that are comforting if you’re a nervous traveler
I’m a nervous flyer, so I know that I need to bring things with me that ease my nerves. If I can get a good iced coffee and a bagel, that helps. I also listen to music while I fly and I must sit by the window. I will bring out the tears to get the window if I need to.
