A couple weeks ago I got the notice that my lease was about to be up. My first reaction was slight anxiety. I’ve gotten in such a good groove since moving to OKC, and the last thing I want is to have to reassess one of the most stable things in my life–where I live!
In college, I got so used to packing and moving that I never really made a place a home. Either there were rules about what could go on the walls or I wasn’t willing to spend money to decorate a place I would eventually leave in a handful of months.
I’ve been in my apartment around 8 months, but I haven’t decorated it to be my home. A lot of the smaller elements in my apartment are things that I’ve collected throughout the years. As I’ve matured my décor taste has developed so there’s all kinds of different styles going on in my space. I think I’ve finally figured out a look that isn’t extremely trendy and I’m ready to make it come to life. There’s something so wonderful about paying attention to the details and it’s time that I dedicate some time to the details and turn this apartment into a home!
Pinterest (follow me!) is a great way to find some inspiration, so today I’m sharing some photos that are guiding me through this project. There are elements of all the photos below that I love and am inspired by. I’ve found that I like a fresh, bright, traditional look.
Over the weekend my mom and I did some shopping and grabbed some items that have kicked off this renaissance. I’m still looking for smaller decorative pieces, coffee table books, couch pillows, new bedding, picture frames, hanging art and possibly a new rug. Whew! I’m hoping to get this project wrapped up in a few months, but if you’ve ever decorated an apartment or home you know that it’s much easier said than done.
I’m just hoping to get myself out of the college mindset and into the adult mindset when it comes to things like home décor. I think many times single 20-somethings don’t want to get too settled where they are because of what may come in the future. This phase of life is not a holding cell, so let’s stop treating it like it is! That’s a lesson I’ve been struggling with lately, but I think that being truly in love with my home and my new adult routine will make me love this time of my life and not wish it away.
