One of the ways I see the Lord is through things that make me feel like me. He speaks to me in the little things that are easily overlooked. Spending time with those I love, jumping on a trampoline or wearing an outfit like the one I’m sharing today. There’s something about an outfit full of staples…something easy and nostalgic. The only way to describe it is that it makes me feel comfortable in my own skin. So, to me, this Barbour jacket is like a second skin, and every fall I can’t wait to bust it out again. Not only is it practical and indestructible, but it will never go out of style. The same can be said for the L.L. Bean boots. These iconic duck boots can handle it ALL. A fisherman sweater is warm, versatile and modest. In fact, this one is a men’s sweater and works perfectly on women. Like a blank canvas, dark denim is the starting point for any fashion masterpiece. My last staple is my beloved Neverfull MM tote. Once it’s broken in, that bag becomes like a part of you. Combine all these staples together in one outfit and you will see Holly Hoehner in her natural habitat.
You could call my style preppy, for sure. However, I prefer a classic preppy style because it’s not only functional, but timeless. In 20 years, I wouldn’t be surprised if I still had all of these items and actually wore them. I appreciate that classic clothing is often modest, functional, clean and gets better with age. You know, like a white button down or Breton stripes or the LBD. Don’t get me wrong, I love some flash and sparkle, but some days functional is best.
So, these are my ride or die fall staples that make me feel like me. As the season changes from autumn to winter, take a look at your closet and find the pieces that make you feel 100 percent yourself. When you do, please share with me! I would love to know about your style. After all, we’re all different and can all get inspired by others.
