Listening: I posted on my Instagram that I need some new songs! Lately, I’ve been loving Red Velvet by R5, Somebody by Bryan Adams, Gracefully Broken by Matt Redman, 1000 Julys and Wounded by Third Eye Blind (still not sick of them!) and several new Taylor Swift songs like King of My Heart, End Game, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, …Ready For It?, Delicate, Call It What You Want, New Year’s Day, Getaway Car and Don’t Blame Me. I also have been loving 1-800-273-8255 by Logic (feat. Alessia Cara and Khalid), but it wasn’t until I read an article on Ad Week that I learned it was created as a PSA for suicide prevention. What a cool idea! I would love to see the data about calls to this number since this song was released. That’s a great way to use a platform to help others.
Watching: At work this month, we watched a little documentary on advertising in reference to the show, Mad Men. After watching it, I decided I needed to watch Mad Men. I started season 1 on Netflix this month. I’m undecided on if I like it or not, but that’s how I was when I started One Tree Hill. So I’m not worried. (I LOVE One Tree Hill now.) The costumes are amazing and the way they portray men and women in the workplace is a little startling. To think how times have changed! (Or have they?)
Eating: I think I went to Kitchen 324, 324 times this month. In reality, I went once for dinner and three times for lunch. Just so you know, the burger is really good! The grilled cheese looked good, but I didn’t try it. I also went to Gogi Go this month, which is a new fast-casual restaurant in Midtown. I am obsessed and have gone back every week since it opens. Highly recommend!!!
Blogging: I have some super exiting things in the works, which got started this month! I can’t wait to share what’s going on with you guys. If you want to be totally in the know, you can subscribe to my blog using the pink bar at the bottom of your screen! Just enter your email. I won’t email you every week, but when something big happens you won’t miss it! You can also follow me on Instagram here and Pinterest here.
Pop-Culturing: The new year has taken off from a pop culture stand point. There’s the Tide pods phenomenon, which is absolutely CRAZY to me. Are we so starved for fame that we will risk injury or death? I guess the answer is yes! There was also the Irish hotel owner that roasted a YouTuber for asking for a free stay at his hotel in exchange for social media promo. I see both sides of it, but I don’t agree with either entirely. My favorite part is when she said in her pitch email that her promotion for Universal Studios in Orlando was very successful for them … Like Universal needs your promo to do well (lol). What bloggers and influencers can learn from this is that it’s time to treat yourself like a business and show ROI when you pitch!
Drinking: There’s something about January and bubbles … I drank some champagne on NYE, so this January I’ve been embracing the bubbly! I strayed from my usual drink at The Jones Assembly when I went with Katie and Evan, and I may have popped a bottle for a nice night in this month! I got some new champagne flutes from Crate & Barrel, so I had to break them in!
Snapchatting: This month I’ve tried to be more active on Snapchat. On Instagram stories, I try to stay “on brand” and use it as a content promotion tool. Snapchat is a little more spontaneous and everyday things that are a little more goofy. I love using all the stickers because I think they’re so funny. I also love the bitmojis that pop up when you swipe. The more I interact with Snapchat, the more I like it. I asked my sophomore girls in my Bible study if they like Snapchat or Stories better. They all looked at me like I was crazy for asking. Snapchat won with Generation Z–marketers take note!
Shopping: I have found a few things this month even though I’m feeling like I’m hitting a little bit of a fashion rut. I’m not willing to buy a lot of winter clothes because we’re on our way out to warmer weather, but I also don’t want to buy that much spring or summer things because I can’t wear them yet! Regardless, I snatched up these pink wedges that you first saw here. I LOVE this precious ski sweatshirt that will be so cute for spring break at a ski resort! Of course, I found some things at Loft. I needed new black pants, so I got these. I also picked up this top and this top, which are the same cut but very different prints. I love this one tied in a bow at the neck!
Podcasting: Recently I’ve been loving The Goal Digger and The Happy Hour podcasts. Both are Christian-based and feature women doing really cool things in the world. The Goal Digger is way more business-focused, while The Happy Hour talks about relationships, life-experiences and testimonies along with some business. Both are so good! I like long podcasts for when I work, and these fit the bill.
Reading: I asked on my Instagram for nonfiction book suggestions a while ago, but now I’m wanting some fiction! All month I’ve been craving a good story lately, so I went to the library and got a library card! I just picked up two new books at Target called Still Me by Jojo Moyes and The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo. Now with my library card, I want to go check books out. I just need to know what I’m getting since I normally go during my lunch break. Here’s what I need you to do … go to my Instagram (@hollyhoehner) and DM me your favorite fiction books!
Graduating: I finally walked under the Clock Tower at OU this month! I graduated in May, but the legend says if you walk under the tower as an undergrad, you won’t graduate on time. I waited until I had the real, paper diploma in my hand before I did it. Better safe than sorry! I can’t wait to walk under it all the time now lol.
