If you’re going to a million weddings in the next few months, you’re in luck! Today’s look is an easy wedding outfit that you won’t overheat in. Summer weddings are gorgeous, but there is always the chance that you’ll be hot if it’s an outside ceremony … or if you’re a big dancer at the reception! This dress is super affordable and versatile. It looks great with heels or Jacks. I’ll probably end up wearing it more with the latter, knowing me. At the bottom of this post, I’ve put together a little widget with tons of great options for you next summer wedding. Make sure to shop it!
I’m a girl who tends to stick to the basics–seersucker, Jack Rogers, a pink lip, etc. This tends to be true in many areas of my life. I never seem to get sick of my favorites music playlist (it’s SO good) filled with classics from Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith and Elton John. I also tend to watch the same handful of movies over and over and over. I’m not quite sure yet if this characteristic is a gift or a curse.
There’s something about summer nights and movies I just love. When I was in college, my sorority used to show a movie on the lawn right as school was starting. Ahhh sweet memories! Today I want to do something a little fun, in honor of all the summer weddings on the horizon, and share my favorite RomComs for summer. Enjoy!
My Favorite RomComs
Jake Ryan alone is reason enough to watch this movie. It’s hands down one of my all time favorite movies EVER and will make you laugh and believe in love again. Farmer Ted is such a mess, which makes for his pursuit of the low-key Samantha Baker all the more entertaining. Plus, most girls can relate to being in love with the start senior at their high school. The ending scene outside the church is iconic. It’s 80s gold.
Favorite scene: Ginny walking down the aisle or the bathroom underpants with Farmer Ted.
This one might tie Sixteen Candles for my favorite movie ever. It also has an iconic scene. (Have you ever seen this photo?) My dad and I can quote this movie to each other all day. It’s sweet with a surprising twist that you’ll never see coming. John Cusack will win your heart in no time as the likable and smitten Lloyd Dobler. It’s a must-watch!
Favorite scene: Lloyd at the Gas N Sip with all the guys when they’re trying to cheer him up about Diane.
Father of the Bride
There’s really nothing better than Steve Martin playing a dad. Especially when he’s an overbearing dad whose daughter is getting married. I think when you watch it, you can find bits of your own dad in him, which makes it all the better. It’s a story of love between a father and daughter, and a story of acceptance between father-in-law and son-in-law. What a classic. The 90s fashion is impeccable, too.
Favorite scene: George Banks in the bathroom at his in-laws’ house.
10 Things I Hate About You
This movie is on E! all the time, but still isn’t as well known as some of the others on this list. It’s such a fun high school love story and is SO quotable. The casting is phenomenal, which I’ve talked about before on my blog, and the teen romance is abundant. I think this movie combines the 90s so well. You’ve got the 90s gloom and grunge mixed with sappy teen love, and it works so well. You must watch!
Favorite scene: Cameron and Bianca in the car after the house party. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is so precious.
A Cinderella Story
I am not ashamed of my love for this movie. It involves Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray, which is the epitome of 2000s tween pop culture. Backed up with the acting brilliance of Jennifer Coolidge, this movie is funny and, dare I say it, magical. It’s no award-winning story or acting, but it’s genuinely sweet and reminds me of being a little girl who loved hearing about prince charming.
Favorite scene: When Sam confronts Austin in the locker room (duh) all the way to the end of the football game (because the song playing is Hear You Me).
Dazed and Confused
This isn’t the most obvious romantic comedy, but I still consider it one! It’s just a “hang out” kind of movie about the first night of summer in a small Texas town in the 70s. The score is absolutely unreal–it opens with Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith. I guarantee you’ll miss high school and the sweetness of new relationships when you watch it.
Favorite scene: When the soon-to-be freshmen boys ask their teacher to let them leave class early and he tells them a story from Vietnam.
So, there are my favorite summer romcoms! Have you seen any of these? Let me know your favorites and if there are any that I need to watch this summer. I’m always looking for a new movie to fall in love with! While you’re here, go ahead and shop these summer dresses for your next wedding. There are so many great ones!
