My family loves the University of Oklahoma.
There are 49 pieces of OU memorabilia in my parents’ house–not including two diplomas. Among several OU-based family memories (ask me about them sometime), one of my favorites is that my dad and uncle got on the field at the 2000 National Championship game and my uncle actually got away with a piece of the field. Literally. Championship grass.
Coming off of a major week for the University, I want to just reminisce on some of my absolute favorite OU memories and highlights. These are the moments that are full of Sooner Magic and never, ever get old. I know there are many more than I have listed, but these particular few are my favorite because I remember the context of what was going on in each scenario.
These are my favorites, but don’t forget to share your own favorite memories in the comments below! BOOMER!!!
p.s. Did anyone else get emotional watching Lincoln Riley’s presser? He’s the perfect successor to Big Game Bob.
Jump Around vs. Texas Tech
Iconic. Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium was absolutely rocking. The best part is, hands-down, the camera cutting to Leach and Crabtree. Hehe.
Lauren Chamberlain’s Walk Off Home Run vs. Tennessee
In 2013, we were going after our first natty since 2000 and, I think, this was the homer that kicked off the dynasty. I remember watching this with the family. We had never been more excited about softball in our lives.
Sugar Bowl 2014 V I C T O R Y
Everyone doubted OU, which made it all the more fun to bring down the great Bama. We watched it with my aunt, uncle and cousins which is one of my fondest memories surrounding OU Football.
The Miraculous Comeback vs. Tennessee
I was watching at a friend’s house and we weren’t hardly paying attention past the first quarter because it was so painful. Luckily, we stayed where we were and watched OU mount this huge comeback. That was fun.
Buddy Hield Destroys Texas At The Buzzer
Fake Field Goal For A TD vs. OSU
OU vs. Kansas Go To Triple Overtime
This is one of the only losses in OU history that I am totally okay with. What a heck of a game and, once again, my dad was there, but with my other uncle.
Bedlam Football Blowout That Was Supposed To Be Close 2015
I was there. It was freezing, but I was warm from all the times I got to scream-sing Boomer Sooner from the OSU student section. I was very respectful, but I did support my team.
OU Softball FINALLY Beats Florida In Game 1 Of The WCWS National Championship
This game drove me CRAZY. At one point I had to go outside to cool off because I was so stressed out. Amazing game, and even more amazing to watch knowing we won.
OU vs. Baylor In November Crunch Time
My dad and I road tripped to Waco for this one. We saw College Gameday and sat in a sea of Baylor fans, luckily under the awning so we stayed dry. This was a game I will never forget.
